Legends In Concert Myrtle Beach forms “Operation Baking Gals Team”

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (October 7, 2008) -  Legends In Concert employees formed  a team of “Operation Baking Gals” and shipped Twenty-five boxes of homemade   cookies  to Captain Christopher Whitaker who is serving in Afghanistan.

The “Operation Baking Gals” program involves gathering a team of bakers who will bake and ship cookies to a soldier stationed overseas.  “It makes us feel good to know that we are supporting these soldiers and sending a little bit of home to them, “said Chris Beattie General Manager of Legends In Concert.  Due to security regulations, packages must be addressed to one specific soldier. ‘As Christopher receives the boxes of cookies, he can share them with other members in is his troop.” Beattie said. Along with the cookies, miscellaneous most requested items were added such as candy, magazines, chap stick and beef jerky. “Most important, let’s spread the word to keep the love going”, said Beattie.

What each team member bakes is up to them, but the Web site for “Operation Baking Gals” gives suggestions as to what types ship well, plus packaging tips and tricks.

The seminal event that led Chris to the military was the terrorist attacks on our country on September 11, 2001.  His dad, a former military pilot and current airline pilot, called to wake him up that morning with the news and to ask him to pray for our country.  Chris did more than that.  Within weeks of the attacks, he had researched the ROTC options at his university and joined the Air Force contingent, joining a long line of men on both sides of his family who have served their country in uniform.

Chris secured a highly competitive spot in the US Air Force pilot training out of college.  After two years of Primary and Advanced Pilot Training, Chris received the coveted wings that designated him an Air Force Pilot.  Now it’s Chris’ own military career that takes him all over the world.
