Perseverance, accuracy, and attention to detail. All of these words aptly describe Kenny Duncan’s commitment to his craft. Kenny is the musical director & lead/rhythm guitarist for Legends In Concert in Myrtle Beach, SC. He has been wielding his axe since 1997 at our South Carolina location and leading the band since 2007.
We decided to take a moment to do a brief sit down with Kenny and gather a few memorable pieces of his Legends journey thus far….
How old where you when you first picked up a guitar? “10″
Who are your musical influences and a fan of?“Chet Atkins, Tony Rice, Eddie Van Halen, Eric Johnson, Ray Flack, and Jerry Reed.”
Who has been in the Surfside location band the longest beside you? and what is the best thing you like about his/her playing style? “Randy Porshia. I really admire Randy’s versatility. His skill allows him to adapt so easily to a variety of musical styles.”
As a performer, what is the most embarrassing on-stage, live mishap you have witnessed? “I was playing bass at an outdoor Bluegrass festival. The fiddle player had a little too much to drink and started swatting at a bird with his bow during one of our songs.”
What is your most favorite moment with Legends In Concert? “Singing harmony with Whit Privette behind Jennifer Joseph as Linda Ronstadt.”
After all these years of performing live night in and night out for Legends, what remains as your favorite Legends’ artist song to perform live? “Our Neil Diamond tribute’s version of The Christmas Song. I loved playing the sax solo on guitar!”
What is the oddest comment you have ever heard from a guest after a show? “Hey, are you Elvis?”
How much time, on average, does the band rehearse for an incoming act? “2 days plus homework…Kenny laughs heartily after this answer. He says “sometimes it’s really tough to put a real number on the actual time it takes to prepare, it can vary from act to act.”
Which Legends normally have the most difficult musical charts for the band to rehearse or “gel” on? “Barbra Streisand, Marilyn Monroe, Liberace, and I could probably name a few more…”
Aside from Legends In Concert, what is the most recent concert you have attended as a fan? “It was a multiple bill of 80’s bands back in 2006, I think? Firehouse, Ratt, Cinderella, & Quiet Riot.”
Last question, two words to describe your band? “Dedicated and meticulous!”
Dedicated and meticulous. Well put Kenny. Catch Kenny Duncan and the band live nightly at our Surfside Beach theater.

Hey Kenny, the most difficult Song u ever played with an act of “Legends in Concert” was me!! Not one of the POLICE or STING Songs, it was “Pride in the Name of love” from U2!! ha ha
Oh damn, I would give my little finger from my right hand to get back to you all for another run in Myrtle Beach!!

Kenny? I thought that guitar player down there at that there Legends was a name of Clifford? What happen to Clifford? Is he still there at that there Legends too? That boy Clifford, whew, he could pick it son, I tell ya for sure !
But I didnt know he had a name of Kenny. I thought he was a Clifford, what happened to Clifford? Aint he down there at that there Legends no more? I miss that boy name of Clifford. I guess I’ll havta come hear that boy name of Kenny, he sounds like he likely could pick on it too. I come see ya again soon.
Kenny, I have seen the “greatest rock and roll guitar players in the world” and you are extremely humble about how talented you and the band are. It amazes me each time I see the show how tight everyone is. The “diversifation” of music required for performer changes..sometimes very differently, from performer to performer is definately a challenge, and you and your band rise to the occassion nightly. A performer can look and sound like a certain group or artist, but the music behind them, carefully arranged to sound like the original song, completes the package! I look forward to my next visit to Legends In Concert.
Hip Hip Hooray!!!
We love the Legends show and see it every year. We always love the performers in the show but it’s really nice to get to know the band members / dancers too so this interview is much appreciated. We had the chance to meet Kenny and not only is he a great guitar player but a wonderful person as well. Keep up the good work Kenny. Look forward to coming back in the fall this year!
